Plant Care – Alocasia Polly
Light: Place your Alocasia Polly under bright and indirect sunlight, and do avoid direct sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and dry up.
Water: Water your Alocasia thoroughly and ensure that the soil is evenly moist. Water your plant whenever the top inch of the soil is dry to the touch, and make sure to water till some water flows through the pot’s drainage holes. Like many other plants, Alocasias do not do well with wet feet. Do not overwater your plant, and watch out for signs of leaves turning yellow and limp.
Soil: The Alocasia thrives in well-aerated soil that drains water quickly and, therefore, should not be placed in soils that are too compacted and heavy, which causes prolonged periods of water retention. And this can lead to root problems, for instance, root rot.
Fertiliser: Fertilise your plant with a general slow-release fertiliser. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when fertilising your plant.
Humidity Requirement: Medium To High
Fun Facts about the Alocasia genus: Did you know? Widely known as the Elephant Ears plant, the Alocasia is popular for having the ability to produce large and ornamental foliage. Typically found in the tropical rainforests of South-East Asia, the Alocasia belongs to the Arum genus.
