Plant Care – Alocasia Yukatan Princess
Light: Alocasia Yukatan Princess thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. A location with filtered or dappled sunlight is ideal.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the plant when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. It is essential to maintain adequate humidity around the plant to prevent its leaves from crisping.
Soil: The soil for Alocasia should be well-draining and rich in organic matter. We recommend using SILLYSOIL Premium Aroid Mix! If you are looking at mixing your own potting mix, a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and regular potting mix provides the right balance.
Fertiliser: Alocasia benefits from regular feeding during the growing season (spring and summer). You can use a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength every 2 to 4 weeks to support its growth.
Humidity: Alocasia Yukatan Princess requires high humidity levels to thrive. Consider using a humidifier or placing a tray filled with water and pebbles near the plant to create a humid microenvironment.
Fun Fact about Alocasia Yukatan Princess: Did you know? The Alocasia Yukatan Princess is also known as Alocasia ‘Purple Sword’ due to the sword-shaped leaves with striking purple undersides. This unique feature, along with its large and glossy foliage, makes it a popular choice among indoor plant enthusiasts and collectors. However, it’s essential to handle this plant with care as its sap can cause skin irritation, so it’s best to wear gloves when pruning or handling it.
