Plant Care – Amydrium Zippelianum
Light: Place your Amydrium Zippelianum under bright and indirect sunlight, and do avoid direct sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and dry up. Though it may tolerate low light conditions, it will grow leggy. We recommend placing it in an area where it can receive dappled sunlight.
Water: Water your Amydrium thoroughly and ensure that the soil is evenly moist. Water your plant whenever the top inch of the soil is dry to the touch, and make sure to water till some water flows through the pot’s drainage holes. Like many other plants, Alocasias do not do well with wet feet. Do not overwater your plant, and watch out for signs of leaves turning yellow and limp.
Soil: The Amydrium thrives in well-aerated soil that drains water quickly and, therefore, should not be placed in soils that are too compacted and heavy, which causes prolonged periods of water retention. And this can lead to root problems, for instance, root rot. We recommend using a gritty mix or aroid mix.
Fertiliser: Fertilise your plant with a general slow-release fertiliser. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when fertilising your plant.
Humidity Requirement: Medium To High. Give it a slight mist or place it with other plants to increase the humidity level.
Fun Facts about the Amydrium genus: Did you know? Native to New Guinea, Southern China and South East Asia, the Amydrium is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae.
