Plant Care – Anthurium
Light: Anthurium thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. They can tolerate lower light conditions but may produce fewer flowers.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
Soil: Plant Anthurium in a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark works well to provide adequate aeration and moisture retention.
Fertiliser: Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half the recommended strength. Avoid fertilising during the dormant winter months.
Humidity: Anthurium thrive in high humidity environments. Mist the leaves regularly or place the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles to increase humidity around the plant.
Fun Fact about Anthurium: Did you know? Anthurium flowers are not actually flowers but modified leaves called spathes. The true flowers are tiny and located on the spadix, which is the upright structure in the center of the spathe.
