Plant Care – Begonia maculata wightii
Light: Place your Begonia maculata wightii under bright and filtered sunlight. And do avoid full sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and dry up. Give your plant 4 to 6 hours of morning sun and nothing more.
Water: Allow the top surface of the soil to dry up between watering the plant. We would recommend watering lesser rather than watering too much as Begonias can get root rot and other problems. Avoid watering its leaves as it will lead to bacteria growth and diseases. Above all, moderately water the soil of the plant and keep the leaves dry.
Soil: The Begonia does well in a well-draining potting mix that can retain some moisture and drain water quickly.
Fertiliser: Fertilise your plant with a balanced Fertiliser diluted to one-quarter strength.
Humidity Requirement: Medium

Plant Care – Begonia maculata
Light: Place your Begonia maculata under bright and filtered sunlight. And do avoid full sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and dry up. Give your plant 4 to 6 hours of morning sun and nothing more. If it is placed in an aea with too much shade over a prolong period, the begonia maculata will grow leggy.
A good rule of thumb is to water your begonia till water flows through the pot’s drainage holes. Pour away any access water from its saucer.
Soil: The Begonia does well in a well-draining potting mix that can retain moisture and drain water quickly.
Fertiliser: Fertilise your plant with a slow-release fertiliser. We would recommend fertilising with Nutricote’s 13-11-11 NPK fertiliser. We use this fertiliser for the majority of our plants in retail.
Humidity Requirement: Medium to High. Give its environment an occasional mist or place your begonia maculata together with other plants for higher humidity. Ensure that your begonia maculata enjoys ventilation and air circulation.
Pest control: The begonia maculata is susceptible to many pests such as scale insects, red spider mites and aphids. If you notice any pests on your plant, it is important that you treat them immediately to prevent further infestation or damage to your plants. We would recommend spraying your insecticides once every week as a preventive measure. If your plant is infested with pests, spray your insecticide once every 3 days until the infestation has mitigated.

1. Do I need to fertilise my begonia? Is fertilising my Begonia necessary?
Yes, fertilising your begonia is important. Begonias are considered heavy feeders when it comes to fertiliser. This, however, does not mean that fertilising will be a hassle. All you need is to feed it with a recommended amount of granular slow-release fertiliser to its soil. It will only be 3 to 4 months later when you have to fertilise your begonia again.
2. Can the Begonia Maculata bloom flowers?
Yes, they absolutely can! The Begonia Maculata blooms with beautiful white flowers. Essentially, your very own Begonia Maculata can flower when it receives bright, indirect sunlight. Ideally, place it indoors near a window where it can receive bright sunlight filtered by the glass panels of your window.
