Plant Care – Begonia Maculata
Light: Place your Begonia Maculata under bright and indirect sunlight, and do avoid direct sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and dry up.
Water: Begonias are relatively vulnerable to root rot caused by overwatering. Allow the top surface of the soil to dry up between watering the plant. We would recommend underwatering rather than overwatering. Avoid watering its leaves as it will encourage bacteria growth and diseases.
Soil: The Begonia is prone to having root rot and thus it requires a well-draining potting mix.
Humidity Requirement: Medium to High
Fun facts about the Begoniaceae family: Begonias are flowering plants native to South and Central America, Africa, and South Asia and number approximately 1500 species. Begonia grows best in locations with indirect sunlight and well-drained, fertile soil in tropical and subtropical climates. Begonia has a succulent stem designed for storing water so it’s prepared itself for the dry periods of the year. And depending on the species, the Begonia can grow up to 60cm in height!
