Plant Care – Brighamia Insignis Hawaiian Palm
Light: Place your Brighamia Insignis Hawaiian Palm under bright and indirect sunlight, and do avoid direct sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and dry up. Place it near a window where it can receive the morning sun.
Water: Water your Brighamia thoroughly and ensure that the soil is evenly moist. Water your plant whenever the top inch of the soil is dry to the touch, and make sure to water till some water flows through the pot’s drainage holes.
Soil: The Brighamia thrives in well-aerated soil that drains water quickly and therefore should not be placed in soils that are too compacted and heavy, which cause prolonged periods of water retention. And this can lead to root problems, for instance, root rot. Pot them in a cactus/ succulent mix.
Fertiliser: Fertilise your plant with a general slow-release fertiliser. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when fertilising your plant.
Humidity Requirement: Medium To High
Fun Facts about the Brighamia genus: Did you know? Native to the islands of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau, the Brighamia Insignis is an endangered species of Hawaiian lobelioid in the bellflower family as its only pollinator, the Hawk moth, is extinct in Hawaii.
