Plant Care – Cockscomb
Light: Place your Cockscomb at a sunny spot. The Cockscomb requires a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunlight every day. The Cockscomb can tolerate some shade, but shaded areas can retain moisture, which might encourage fungal growth and rot.
Water: Allow the top two inches of the soil to dry before watering. Ensure that the soil is thoroughly moist.
Soil: Cockscomb thrives in fertile, moist and well-drained soil rich with organic matter.
Fertiliser: Fertilise your Cockscomb with liquid fertiliser once a month. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions when fertilising.
Humidity Requirement: Medium
Fun Facts about the Cockscomb: The Cockscomb is a herbaceous shrub of 1m maximum height. It produces showy flowers that are velvety, resembling a brain or a cock’s comb, thus its common name the “Cockscomb”. Colours range from white and yellow to shades of orange, red, and purple. Cockscomb flowers can be dried and used in floral arrangements. Like other Celosias, the Cockscomb will grow in nutrient-poor, sandy soil but thrive and bloom more profusely in soil with high organic matter levels.
