Plant Care – Fortune Bamboo
Light: Place your Fortune Bamboo in an area with bright and indirect sunlight. It can tolerate slight shade, but a bright environment encourages better growth.
Water: Watering is the most common mistake related to lucky bamboo plants. Chlorinated water will kill them over time, and water that is dirty or infected with bacteria can be deadly. If a plant develops black roots, then prune off the roots. We highly recommend changing the water with distilled or bottled water every week. Fallen, dead leaves should never be allowed to sit and rot in the water as they might introduce bacteria.
Soil: Not applicable.
Fertiliser: A single drop of liquid fertilizer applied monthly is sufficient to sustain any lucky bamboo almost indefinitely.
Humidity Requirement: Medium
Fun Facts about the Fortune Bamboo: Did you know? The lucky bamboo can also survive in pure water containers or well-draining soil. Although the word bamboo occurs in several of this plant’s common names, Dracaena sanderiana is of an entirely different taxonomic order from true bamboos. Also, surprisingly, it is a native African species.
