Plant Care – Pachira Aquatica
Light: Place your Pachira Aquatica under bright and indirect sunlight, and do avoid direct sunlight because it will cause its leaves to scorch and turn brown. You may wish to rotate and turn the plant frequently to evenly distribute light to its leaves.
Water: Water your Pachira thoroughly and make sure that the soil is evenly moist. Water your plant whenever the top inch of the soil is dry to the touch, and make sure to water till some water flows through the pot’s drainage holes. Do make sure not to overwater as root problems will occur.
Soil: Pachira thrives in well-aerated soil that drains water quickly, and therefore should not be placed in soils that are too compacted and heavy, which cause prolonged periods of water retention. And this can lead to root problems, for instance, root rot.
Fertiliser: Fertilise with a diluted liquid fertiliser once every three weeks.
Humidity Requirement: Medium To High
Fun Facts about the Pachira genus: Did you know? Legend has it that a poor Taiwanese farmer found a small Pachira growing on his farm and fell in love with its beauty. He decided to grow more Pachira and sold many of it, eventually escaping poverty and becoming a wealthy man. This is where the Pachira got the name ‘Money Plant’ and why people associate the plant with luck and good fortune.
