Poinsettia Superba New Glitter
Poinsettia Superba New Glitter are popular ornamental plants known for their vibrant foliage, often associated with the Christmas season. Native to Mexico, these plants add a festive touch to any indoor space with their striking, star-shaped bracts.
Poinsettias are imported from colder climates and are best enjoyed as short-term decorative plants in Singapore’s tropical environment. Due to the local climate, they are not intended to flourish long-term. Under normal conditions, poinsettias can be expected to maintain their decorative quality for approximately 1–2 weeks.
Plant Care – Keep poinsettias in a warm spot with plenty of light, away from draughts and sudden temperature changes. Rotate the pot occasionally to ensure even growth.
Light: Bright, indirect sunlight is ideal. Avoid direct midday sun which may scorch the leaves.
Water: Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as this may lead to root rot.
Soil: Well-draining potting mix, ideally with peat moss or perlite to maintain moisture without waterlogging.
Fertiliser: Use a balanced, all-purpose liquid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during the growing season (spring to summer). Avoid fertilising while it’s in bloom.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. If the air is dry, mist the leaves occasionally or place a tray of water nearby.
Fun Fact about the Poinsettia: Did you know? The red “flowers” of the poinsettia are actually specialised leaves called bracts, the true flowers are the small yellow buds in the centre.
