Anthurium (Red)

Anthuriums are striking tropical plants known for their glossy, heart-shaped leaves and vibrant, long-lasting flowers, which are actually modified leaves called spathes. Their unique appearance and bold colours make them a favourite for brightening up indoor spaces.

Anthuriums are popular for Chinese New Year as their bright red or pink spathes symbolise prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. Their heart-shaped foliage also represents love and harmony, making them a perfect gift to usher in positive energy for the new year.

Plant Care – Moderate maintenance

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some shade. Avoid direct sunlight, as it may scorch the leaves.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.

Soil: A well-draining, airy potting mix, such as a blend of peat, perlite, and orchid bark, is ideal.

Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) for healthy growth and vibrant blooms.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60% or above). Mist the leaves occasionally or use a humidifier to maintain optimal conditions.

Fun Fact about the Anthurium: Did you know? The Anthurium is also known as the “”Flamingo Flower”” due to its brightly coloured, waxy spathes that resemble a flamingo’s feathers!
